Gozitan Villages

Fontana

Population: 850
Nearby: Victoria, Xlendi, Munxar

Fontana is also known as Triq tal-Ghajn which derives its name from a spring situated at the bottom of Fontana-Xlendi Road.

The main attraction in this small village of Fontana, are two arched shelters opposite each other. These were built during the 16th Century over the Spring for the convenience of people to wash their clothing. Nearby, there is also a small tourist shopping centre ‘Fontana Cottage’. One can see the lace and the filigree being done.

Passed the arched shelters, on the way to Xlendi Bay, one cannot miss the evergreen Lunzjata Valley where local farmers are busy working all year long in this fertile valley.

The Parish Church which is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was built during 1892-1905 and was established a Parish Church on the 27th March 1911. The feast is celebrated on the second Sunday in June.
