Ghasri meaning ‘The Pressing Place’ overlooks the nethermost point of the Maltese islands. This very small village, actually the smallest village in Gozo, in olden times was very popular for the olives being pressed into oil.

The parish church in Ghasri is dedicated to the Christ The Saviour (Corpus Christi). It was built in 1903 and the villages celebrates the feast on the first/second Friday in June.

Ghasri is well known for country walks. The roads lead to some interesting places such as Ta’ Gordan Lighthouse, The Chapel of St. Publius, Ghammar Hill. The Niche of Our Lady of the Annunciation and the very picturesque valley of Wied il-Ghasri.

Going up to the steep hill to Ta’ Gordan, you will be marvelled with the sight-seeing and magnificent views. One must note that Neolithic remains, dating back to 4500 BC, were discovered on this hill. Ta’ Gordan lighthouse was built in Ghasri because of its position. Sentries have always been sent here on the look out for the enemy or boats approaching the island.

Wied il-Ghasri is a must to visit. It lies between Zebbug and Giodan Hill. The sea flows between very high impressive cliffs. For those who seek a quite beach, Wied il-Ghasri is the best choice. It is also a haven for divers who like to explore the surrounding caves.

A punic burial place was discovered which dates back to1979. This 18th Century village Ghasri remains magnificent with its charm, views and also its history.
